PS Complex (Pigment Stabilizer)

US Patent # 5,958,437

The formation of dark melanin discoloration is quite similar to the dark patches of melasma, but in a continuous rather than demarcated blotchy macular manner. The known prior efforts have been concentrated on post-laser surgery treatment with known skin lighteners, such as hydroquinone with or without strong irritants, such as retinoic and/or azalezic acid. Hydroquinone was also combined with kojic acid. Beside their irritancy, these prior art hydroquinone-based compositions have also acted very slowly and were insufficient to bring about some skin lightening over a period of a few weeks, but requiring their application for periods of over 3 months.

The main causes of pigmentation problems are:

  1. Exposure to the sun

The sun accentuates age spots by activating melanin synthesis, creating areas of hyperpigmentation. These areas become darker if they are exposed to ultraviolet rays without protection.

  2. Ageing

Age causes changes in pigmentation. The number of active melanocytes decreases by 10% every 10 years. In addition, the production of melanin becomes unpredictable, with hyperpigmented areas of hyperactive melanocytes and depigmented areas with few melanocytes. These nonetheless react to UV exposure. Brown spots appear on the back of the hands, the forearms, the face, neckline and other exposed areas of the skin.

  3. Changes in hormone levels: contraceptive pills, pregnancy, estrogen replacement therapy (menopause)

Take the example of pregnancy: levels of estrogens and progesterone increase greatly during this period. This may lead to increased photosensitivity. A pregnancy mask (chloasma) may form.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It provides a kit containing component compositions for treating damage to and discolorations of laser-treated, ablated skin surfaces, and thus for the faster elimination of erythema from surface inflammation, for the moisturizing the skin, and for preventing and/or counteracting the darkening of skin faster than was heretofore possible.

It also provides a kit and its components for treating skin to be subjected to laser ablation surgery prior to the surgery, and also after the surgery to prevent, or minimize the occurrence of skin darkening as a result of the laser treatment, and to lighten the thus less darkened skin to its natural condition, as well as to treat the inflamed and otherwise damaged skin in a more systematic and rapid fashion than it was done heretofore.

Frequently Asked Questions
(US Patent # 5,958,437)

Q. Why do people get hyperpigmentation – what is it that happens in the skin?

A breakdown occurs in one of the amino acids (Cysteine) in the skin at celluar level. The absence of this amino acid results in darker pigment or hyperpigmentation.

Q. Can I use Pigment Stabilizer with other products such as AHA’s (Glycolic, Lactic acid, etc.)?

Yes, but do not use them all on the same day (i.e., do not use Pigment Stabilizer on the same day that you have a glycolic acid facial treatment.)

Q. What causes hyperpigmentation and melasma?

Hyperpigmentation canresult from skin procedures such as chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. It also can arise from hormonal changes and/or pregnancy, prolonged sun exposure, certain medications and chemotherapy.

Q What is the key ingredient on Pigment Stabilizer?

The key ingredient is a scientific breakthrough. The exclusive patent, bioengineered compound is a newly discovered pentapeptide that also contains rare plant extracts including Mushroom, Licorice, Bearberry and Lactobacillus Algae – which have been bioengineered into powerful penetrating micro-beads that work within the skin to trasform dark melanin (emumelanin) into lighter melanin (phaeomelanin), depressing synthesis of the melanocytes that cause hyperpigmentation.

Q. What are the advantages to using Pigment Stabilizer over other skin lighteners?

It is non-irritating, non-carcinogenic and it is not photosensitive.

Q. What is the difference between Pigment Stabilizer and other skin lightener products?

Pigment Stabilizer is not a bleaching agent.
Rather, it is formulated with an exclusive skin lightening compound, PentaPeptide, that achieves amazing results without the most common and potentially irritating skin bleaching agent, hydroquinone.
Rare plant extracts in micro-bead form work within the skin to trasform dark melanin (emumelanin) into lighter melanin (phaeomelanin), depressing synthesis of the melanocytes that cause hyperpigmentation.
